The good thing about the cold weather is that some local attractions will be opening very soon! Loon Mountains opening day will be November 19,2010, weather permitting. This summer Loon Mountain put in a zip line that is 700 feet long and goes directly over the Pemigewasset River, this winter it will be open on weekends and holidays! Loon also offers tubing seven days a week as well as the obvious skiing and snowboarding!

A lot of local attractions have closed for the season but there are still a couple of options! The Mount Washington Cog Railway is still open daily, the train goes up the mountain twice a day at 11am and 2pm. Also Alpine Adventures is open Friday through Monday between 9am and 3:30pm for zip lining tours. Reservations for both of these attractions are highly recommended!
With the rain and the wind that we had a few weeks ago, most of the Foliage has come and gone already. This past week we have seen some colder temperatures and some light flurries which can only mean one thing….Winter is on the way! That being said we are still having fun with all of our Fall activities. This past week we started a Pumpkin Carving Contest, Guests join us in the activities room to carve pumpkins and we take pictures of all the finished pumpkins, On Halloween the staff will decide which Pumpkin was carved the best and we will post it here on our blog. We also have some really great tours that you can go on; The Windy Ridge/Covered Bridge Tour is one of the Favorites. We take you on a four hour adventure around Northern New Hampshire, We go to Windy Ridge Orchard for lunch, where they make their own homemade sandwiches and apple cider donuts. From there we stop to check out a couple of covered bridges and we go to a place called The Brick Store, which is the oldest general store in the country! Fun for the whole family! For a complete list of our activities, please call the resort directly.

Skiing is pretty much over up here in the Lincoln as Loon Mountain gets ready to close for the season this weekend. Cannon Mountain has closed this past week. Now we are waiting for all the local businesses to open for the summer. Majority of the businesses will not be opening until mid-May but only on weekends. They will all be open seven days a week come mid-June. Please check with the front desk or myself on discounted tickets when you stay with us.
If you are in the area this weekend you should check out the Murder Mystery Event that is taking place. If you are looking for places to go snowshoeing some of the places that are not totally lost with snow are the hiking trails off the Kanc Highway. There are some really nice hiking trails that you will either see waterfalls or lakes.
